My outdoor electrical outlet has suddenly stopped working. Any suggestions?

January 9, 2010

This outlet powers my garden watering system (no wonder the plants have been looking dry and wilty), outdoor lights, and a small fountain. I checked the circuit breaker and all seems fine. Any other ideas suggestions?
THANKS EVERYONE! I reset the red GFI button on another outside outlet and that did the trick. It looks like my fountain motor is blown though, maybe that’s what caused the problem in the first place. Thanks for your help… problem solved!

How can I do more for the birds in my garden?

November 23, 2009

I say garden but really it’s a tiny (2 meters by 3 meters) cobbled courtyard. It’s walled off and has plants round the perimeter, mostly year long greens, ivy and some seasonal flowers.
There’s a small fountain in the wall which has fresh water.

Now I put out bread every day and get the most adorable little birds, I’d love to do more (am a sucker for animals) so is there anything else? Do I have to wait till winter for balls of seeds?

What could I put in my aquarium for an ‘around the garden’ theme?

October 31, 2009

I have a terra cotta pot in it that my pets like to swim through. I wanna get dark-brown gravel to make it look like dirt. Oh, and a lot of plants.

Any suggestions on species of plant/other decor? Any help is needed.

Thanks!

Garden themed aquarium; decor/plant ideas?

October 25, 2009

I want to do an ‘around the garden’ themed aquarium. I will buy terra cotta pots and get earth colored gravel and get a ton of plants. Any particular species of plant you have in mind? Also any other decoration ideas are appreciated. :) Thanks!

Would this be considered rude?

October 8, 2009

I live in an apartment complex. My neighbor below me has TONS of wind chimes, plants and other decor hanging from her porch.
It has been very very windy the past few days. She has this wooden piece of decoration hanging that gets caught in the wind and will slam up against the sides of the building – making a very loud banging sound.
This has been going on for 2 days now. It is very annoying and very loud. Would it be completely rude if I removed the offending piece and set it on the ground and pretended like it ‘fell’?
OK. I guess I’m just overly irritated from no sleep. my 4 week old didnt take to the noise well either last night.
i just assumed she would remove it herself, since it is outside her apartment, the noise is louder in hers than it is in mine. maybe it just doesn’t bother her. But if the situation were reversed, I would remove the offending piece in respect to others.
thanks for the advice.

pagans…. if you could would you…?

August 29, 2009

if you could have any amount of land/gardens that you desired and there was no limit on the money you could spend would you:

have a garden and how many? also would you have a garden/areas in the garden for each element (fire, water, wind, earth)?

would you have an alter in your garden?

how big would your perfect space (garden/outdoor space) be and what would you do with the space? (garden:what type and what type of plants, space: decor/hardscape, other:whatever else you would do).

how much time would you spend in your outdoor space/garden?

thanks!

How do I build a water garden for wildlife (not a pond) just a damp area with ferns etc to attract dragonflies

August 27, 2009

I would like the area to be attractive and peaceful to myself other people and also to wildlife in general. The area I have in mind already has ferns, arum lillies and iris. I have a vision of pebbles and just a little water but not with fountains or waterfalls. Something that is cost conscious would be great! The area is about 2m x 3m with the plants mentioned already positioned around the edge. Any ideas anyone how to tackle this?

Thanks for any help offered.

First water garden, filled up with rainwater…?

July 22, 2009

This is my first water garden, I just dug a small pond and got the liner in. Well, of course it rained last night and now my pond is filled with muddy rainwater. It is less than 100 gallons, so pumping it out wouldn’t be out of the question… just annoying. I wasn’t planning on installing a filter since it is a smaller pond, just using a fountain to circulate and oxygenate the water. Planning on putting in plants and goldfish in a week or so. Is there any other options for removing the dirt from the water besides draining or getting a filter? I was also wondering if anyone knew of any good websites with info on caring for water gardens.
