Seniors what do you have in your yard that isnt a plant?
What decorative, creative, interesting or whimsical little something do you have in your yard that isn’t a plant ? Something you put there yourself.
I have a statue of St Francis which is about 3 feet tall, and a black Asian carp that is about 1 1/2 feet long and stands about 8 inches tall.
A sandstone plaque of some sort of face on the fence and 4 musically tuned wind chimes and one bamboo "chatter" windchime.
This morning I found a ceramic rabbit by the carp. Two things come to mind, someone put it there as a nice surprise for me, or whoever stole my 6 hostas left it to taunt me. Its where the hostas were.
I have the usual garden/patio furniture, mine is faux wicker, and an antique garden bench
And apparently had a rooster with a sense of humour LMAO
This summer I need to get another birdbath, mine also went missing ![]()
We arent allowed to use fire pits anymore damn environmentalists, it pollutes the air. They are trying to ban wood burning fireplaces too
I used to have half an acre and I was in heaven, even with the pool I had my own "park" ! Now I have a postage sized back yard, its enough for me, and the cat likes it.
Let’s see now…
bug zapper
smoker
bbq
old tire
junk
washline
flagpole
wood pile
hmmmm… gosh, I might be a redneck!
Have a Seasoned day.
Chickens, turkeys, dogs, trucks, golf cart, pig statue, hose, rake, water bowls for the animals satellite dish. It all looks good to me.
I have a cute miniature iron table and chairs. It’s is the one my great nephew and niece (twins) use to sit out when they were tiny.

I like to landscape with natural stones and rocks, so I stacked some large rocks together to make a feature and planted a few greeneries to enhance it. The birds love sitting on the top rock. I also have a lot of ceramic bird houses hanging from an oak tree and various wind chimes hanging from another along with several bird feeders that I made from metal lamp shades, the birds love them. I hate that you lost your hostas, I’m hoping mine come up. Have a great day.
I have our small (16 foot) Bay Boat for shallow water fishing. Our fire pitt for evening gatherings and two pair of dolphin wind chimes.
That’s about it, except for the plants. My tomato plants are already right at 4 foot tall and have small tomatoes on them. The cilantro is going to seed. My mustard greens need to be picked because it’s really heating up outside. It’s my bucket brigade of fresh vegetables
I have a very boring yard. I do have a duck but he/she is not where I want him. This spring I will be planting ornamental grass across the front of the house. The duck will be peeking out.
Also I have rakes and shovels in the yard. Soon, I hope to get a shed and they will go in there.
I also have rope for a very long swing, from the tree, in back. Can’t wait for that.
I have a bench, birdbath, and blue gazing ball, along with a leprechaun for good measure.
2 dead dogs, one dead cat and one pidgeon, but don t worry they are underground..lol
Sundial, bird feeder and bird bath.
Hardwood furniture.
Some wooden lawn furniture made by a neighbor.
Some solar path lights.
And probably a few presents left by the neighborhood roaming dogs.
A concrete cherubim sitting on a concrete bench. A mother’s support group I belong to went together and gave it to me in memory of my mother when she passed several years ago. I also have a gazing ball which is royal blue, (go figure,) on a pedestal in my back yard. I have a small plaque that says, ‘Welcome to my garden,’ that was a gift from a friend as well. We have the swimming pool and patio furniture on the deck in the summer, and a hummingbird and upside down finch feeder. On the front porch we have a bistro table where we drink our coffee some mornings when warmer weather permits.
A turtle, a rabbit ,a cat and a squirrel, but they aren’t real. also several plant holder shelves that my husband made, some nailed between trees, three hanging baskets, allot of other smaller flower holders nailed to one of the palm trees, and a shelf stand that holds flower pots under the window in front of the house, plenty of flowers, but plenty of pots too.* the real critters are possums, raccoons, crows, hummingbirds, gophers, frogs, big lizards and many others that pass through that I don’t notice.
Ceramic gnomes and elves. Snow White and her 7 little friends. A couple girls in fashions from the 1800s. A kissing couple of kids, maybe others that I can’t think of now.
Picnic table, fire pit, wooden benches. We generally erect a screen tent, too, when the bugs are bad outside.
Right now not much but a very sweet little cat who has had some trouble. She has lost sight in one eye and her sinus cavity was punctured so she makes noise when she breathes. We call he Mottlee. it’s because her fur is very mottled and she can almost disappear against the trees. She is okay but will never see out of the one eye. She loves to sleep in a tree that has a really neat area when the main trunk splits off into large branches. The leaves are out and when she is in her little perch she can see out but you can’t see her at all unless you know where to look. Slowly she has lost her fear of us and now spends most of the day on our patio sleeping in one of the chairs that has a cushion. I would love to bring her in but we have one cat that is so mean that the other cat we have stays in the back end of the house. We just was having rain for the last four days and we made her a little house to get out of the rain. I don’t thinks she likes it too much yet. It just may be her fears. This summer the yard is getting a makeover and will have a fairy circle complete with some fairies, one of the trees will be given a personality by adding facial features to the tree. The patio will be repoured and made larger then all of out patio furniture will fit on it better. I’m really anxious to get started, and maybe by then our Miss Meany will have figured out she has to share and Mottlee can joing the family officially,
In the spirit of recycling, I have glazed bowling balls instead of those glass gazing balls!!! You can’t tell the difference – except the dogs can’t knock them over and break them. I also have lots of big rocks. We live near the top of a mountain and so there are enough rocks to do anything I want to do – like put them around flowerbeds, the border plantings of the house, make steps going down to the next ‘plateau.’ Let’s see what else that isn’t a plant? Bears, Deer, which come when the Dogs aren’t home. A cat, and sometimes a roadrunner or two. Lizards, and goodness knows what else that we can’t see. A couple birdbaths, a pond thing with a fountain and an angel sitting on a bridge pouring out water. A tree stump with a big silver swan looking bird with it’s wings preparing for flight. A statue of a sad little dog with a sign that says ‘dog in yard’. It is a huge front yard, and could still use more ’stuff!’ I forgot – a monster size dog house. An extra table and chairs and a couple lawn chairs…and a hammock. Farther out by the shop is a dump truck and a bull dozer and two jeeps and two bikes. That is as much as I can remember. Nupe, just thought of another bunch on the other side…a huge old satellite dish that I am going to make a fountain out of in the north side of the yard. There is also a picnic table over there. OMG that reminded me that there is another picnic table out near the road – where the garden was. I quit!
I have a concrete bird bath and a concrete rabbit – the latter totally confuses the local population and my cat!

We’ve been so blessed with the most wonderful view from our back/front yard, that even if we didn’t have anything outside, it
wouldn’t matter. Right now, we don’t have much of our stuff
outside. Since we moved in early December, what has been out
all winter, was here when we moved in. But we did bring our bird-
bath with ceramic birds around the rim. And my husband put
colored glass inside to give it some color under the water. They
are those little round glass balls you can get at craft stores.
We have a wooden porch swing to the right of our entry. And
a faux tree in a wicker basket to the right of our door. And at its’ base, sits a ceramic frog with cartoon eyes. We have a long hanging wind chime hanging under the overhanging deck above our entrance. And a bamboo one as well. There’s a dream catcher wind chime to the left of our door with feathers hanging at the bottom.
And to the left of our entry we have a large patio table and four
chairs with new striped cushions. And to the left further, are planting pots, and gardening things sitting on an old kitchen
divider. There are some filled pots with dead plants sitting in a rock
garden. And as soon as our rainy period is over for awhile, those
will be emptied and hopefully be prepared for some small flowers to
greet those who come to our door.
Hostas,,, used to have a ceramic rabbit,,,
My Grandma has a statue of Saint Francis, and a bird feeder or two, and a light house. She loves light houses so we give them to her and she has alot of little trees and bushes and they look really nice.
I have some wind chimes on my deck, an outdoor table and chairs.
I have a lovely wishing well, and decking outside my dining room’s french windows, and we call it a garden.
I also have a shed, and the back door to my garage, my garden is all enclosed with a 9 foot wooden fence.
On my decking I have all my garden furniture
it is white, and rain proof, and in my shed I keep the deckchairs, I use in the summer.
We put nearly all of the ceramics in storage before winter, but right this minute there is a three foot tall cement Indian, bird feeders, a large number of huge pine stumps but the snow isn’t gone here yet. Can’t wait for warm weather to get my gardens cleaned up and in shape for a few new flowers this year along with the hundreds of perennials. Then have the ground worked back up for the huge vegie garden.
That sounds so pretty. I have bamboo wind chimes, they sound like bones rattling, I love it. Also a white cement swan that belonged to my mother, a faux wicker rocker that sets under the cherry tree and a pretty swing that sets under the carport with soon to be red geraniums in large black pots. I also have a bird bath in my garden next to the sunroom. I can’t hardly wait for true spring so I can start my flowers again. Poppy
Gargoyle
I have some wind chimes but my favorite thing is the fire pitt. There’s nothing like it to keep us warm while we’re sitting around with friends on a cold evening. I love the almost ‘hypnotic’ nature of it.
i have a 32 ft lawn ornament at my house. some of you may call it a motor home but to me it’s a lawn ornament since it never moves.
Lots of rocks and a gazing ball
I have a fountain with a girl and two boys , and another one of a girl under a umbrella, I have bird houses, and a stature of Garfield the cat.
a birdhouse shaped like a bluebird and a great big snowflake hanging from a shepherd’s crook(it’s coming down Friday, first day of Spring)
A 4 foot high Wind-mill complete with sails, but surounded by (Flowers)
Originally wasn’t going to answer this question… Thought it would sound slightly pretentious or over-reaching, but then, I’m really not the pretentious type, just proud of the small accomplishments.
My back yard has an exotic garden (I know you said no plants but:) that includes a variety of palms and cactus, terraced on one side by rocks. Not ordinary rocks but rocks my wife and I collected from our property ranging from a pound or two to three hundred (guesstimate). I also took some rocks and made wells for the wild Palo Verde bush/trees that have invaded my desert and they actually look kind of nice. Lately I’ve been grooming the Prickly Pear cactus, Mesquite and Sage so they will grow tall and not give the snakes a place to hide (at least close to the house). But my favorite by far is the Sahuaro’s, four beautiful majestic creatures that have endured time. I work with one of the local tribes here in the SW Desert (US) and was originally storing a Christmas float, but have since decided to turn it into a Cantina, were calling it Sahuaro Cantina. And last I want to mention another of my favorites; I have a Rockwell! You betcha, took a bunch of rocks and made a well, then placed a large boulder in the middle, so now I tell all; we picked up a Rockwell the other day:) Along with the Dart Board and Horse shoe pit, my wife loves her wind chimes which range from Dream Catchers to water, glass and symbolic (usually ocean) creatures dangling from our patio cover. If that doesn’t sound like enough, it’s not! We also have ornamental lizards and Cokapeli (sp?)art on the walls suroounding this particular part of our yard and to top it off we planted our 1923 Alaskan King ice box on the back patio, it is a great place for the stereo.
The front yard which is really the true back yard is about an acre of desert and I really doubt if anyone would bother to read what we have sitting out there. But thanks for the question:):)
Dog poop !!! Sorry, couldn’t resist. We have 3 chihuahuas and often joke about how "prolific" they are.
Seriously, I have a heart shape rock that says "welcome" — it is like a stepping stone going to the garden. My husband jokes that instead of saying "welcome" it should say "watch out for the dog poop!".
Damn i don’t have a yard no more we live in a condo on the 5th floor now. i sure do miss our old house it had a big yard and a deck on the south side of it.
A leprechaun hiding in the greenery and dog poop landmines.
Flag pole with an American flag, with a spotlight on it at night. I take it down due to inclement weather.
In my front yard I have a very large lava rock, huge concrete basket, antique corn planter, two rabbits, and two wind chimes. In the back yard, I have a Koi pond made out of a galvanized water trough with an antique hand water pump, two birdbaths, two porch swings, 2 concrete chickens, 3 frogs, a ceramic cat, assorted crock pottery, 3 wind chimes and fire pit. You think I have overdone it? Naaahhhhhhhhh
My back yard is full of whimsy! An old metal chair rests on the fence along with a small children’s size shovel. Around the BBQ area there are old rusty cast iron frying pans hanging from the fence and a tower that I use for flower pots. There is a windmill in the middle of the yard which is spinning like crazy right now, and when it’s summer the hammock is out between two trees. I pick up interesting chunks of wood and they are incorporated around plants. On the porch the lawn chairs are the old aluminum with the webbing, tables made from old wooden beams with casters so they can be moved easily, and a glass top table with an umbrella.
Out here I’m never really sure what is in my yard unless I go look. There might be a rabbit of two or an armadillo and usually I can find a roadrunner. If it is very dry and there is very little grass I might even have a doe up pretty close to the house. Dry weather does tend to make the lion lye down with the lamb. I have an old millstone in the yard that I have had since I was a boy. My Sweetie likes to train her climbing roses on old implement wheels so we usually have several of those scattered around. I am never really sure where my yard ends and where my pasture begins so I am confused with whats in my yard and whats out in my pasture. We are not much into landscaping I guess.
With 3 male dogs that lift their legs, I can’t have much in the yard. ;-( I do have an old wooden skiff with three large planters in them. When spring finally rolls around here, they will get planted with red impatiens and german ivy. We have a flag pole outside the yard next to the arbor that I love. A goal I have is to have coconuts in my yard someday, sigh……..
Right now nothing because we put it away before it snows. In the nice weather i have lots of junk. Frogs ands toads and bunnies and foxes (statues), Decorative flags, two sizes. I put them out in the winter, too, though. Path lights that look like lighthouses. A stake that has a wooden sunflower on it and a welcome sign attached. Six hanging twirly things that look like icicles but are colorful. A big conch shell that my husband made a hole in the small end of that he can blow so it sounds like a horn. Two sets of dark green wrought iron furniture including umbrellas that we put on two of our three decks. A big wind spinner that sticks in the ground and looks like a pinwheel. The typical pair of flamingos (as a joke). A path light that my friend made me. It’s three small fence posts in three heights attached with fancy rope, decorated with silk flowers and also a wooden welcome sign. Also, six big pots of flowers plus the ones in the actual ground.
I forgot the bamboo wind chimes.
